Celebrity Gossips, Whats The Attraction?

Have you ever found yourself enthralled by what goes on in the personal lives of celebrities? Well, you aren't alone. A huge percentage of people all over the world look forward to opening up their magazine of choice and reading about what the famous are up to. In what new ways has Tom Cruise embarrassed himself? Has Britney Spears given birth yet? Are Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie sleeping in separate beds? For some reason, many humans find these things to be interesting.
But you have to ask yourself, why is it that people are entertained hearing about celebrity gossip? If Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are having marital troubles, what makes it more interesting than your neighbors regular fights? Is it because the celebrities have more money, and therefore anything that happens to them is more important? After all, if I want to hear about marital troubles, I don't have to look very far.

Celebrity gossip is a huge business. The photographers can earn literally thousands of dollars just for taking a picture of a celebrity. The magazines scrape together every little bit of info the can to come up with the newest rumors. The magazines are released to grocery store checkouts across the nation, and are quickly snapped up by shoppers eager to hear the latest.

The Celebrity is really an interesting phenomenon. Society has idolized people who are hardly more good-looking or charismatic than the average person. And individuals have followed this trend, and begun to be interested by the celebrity gossip that is everywhere. But when put into perspective, few people can come up with the true reason they are interested by it. So, ask yourself why you really enjoy reading the gossip magazines. If you can't come up with any valid reason, perhaps it's time to rethink your priorities.

Placido Domingo: world?s most famous opera singer, in conversation

Placido Domingo, world?s most famous opera singer, showed up for a press conference at War Memorial Opera House yesterday in a quality gray suit, and with a pale blue scarf draped around his neck. He is an elegant man and a good storyteller, with (not a surprise) a mellifluous speaking voice. He was there to talk about his starring role in San Francisco Opera?s ?Cyrano de Bergerac,? which opens Sunday. It?s the tenor?s first stage role with the company since 1994, so there is much excitement, and Domingo floated some interesting theories about the opera?s composer, Franco Alfano, and why Alfano?s reputation isn?t of the first order.
Let?s come back to that. First, though, did you know that Domingo ? whose wife of 48 years, soprano and stage director Marta Ornelas Domingo, was in the audience ? has a grandson studying to be a tenor at San Francisco Conservatory? This, Domingo said, has been his advice to the young man: ?Think it over. It?s very hard. You always have to be thinking, `Am I going to reach the high note?? ?
During the course of the conversation, moderated by SFO general director David Gockley, Domingo mentioned that he and Marta enjoy unwinding by watching soap operas. He said that he planned Tuesday evening to watch the football match between Real Madrid, his favorite team, and Milan, which he had taped that morning. And he expressed regret that he won?t be able to attend a Giants-Phillies game: Risking the chilly weather in the days before a big stage performance isn?t a good idea. ?This is one of the great sacrifices,? joked Domingo, who kept dropping baseball references into the conversation. Asked about his warm-up and practice routine, he said, ?If you?ve sung a performance, and you?ve sung it well, don?t do anything until the next performance. Let the voice rest,? he suggested, likening his routine to that of a pitcher who rests for three days after an outing.
Domingo, who turns 70 in January, has been in and out of the news all year. He is stepping down as general director of Washington National Opera, though he recently extended his contract with Los Angeles Opera (which he also runs) by two years. He continues to expand his repertory (?I always have the itch of looking for new pieces,? he said Tuesday) and lately has been taking on baritone roles, for instance singing the title role in Verdi?s ?Simon Boccanegra? at the Met.
During Tuesday?s conversation at War Memorial, Gockley asked Domingo if perhaps he was simply returning to his ?natural voice,? as some listeners have always considered him to be a quasi-baritone. In fact, in 1959, Domingo auditioned for the National Opera in Mexico City as a baritone. But Tuesday, Domingo, said, no, no! His voice is that of a tenor: ?I really have to color it differently? to sing baritone roles, he said, elucidating some of the technical considerations. ?I don?t pretend to be a baritone.?
Given the logistics of his day-to-day schedule, bringing Domingo to San Francisco Opera this month hasn?t been easy. Saturday, he finished his run singing the role of poet Pablo Neruda in composer Daniel Catan?s ?Il Postino? at Los Angeles Opera. Sunday, he finished conducting ?Figaro? at Los Angeles Opera. Flying to San Francisco for ?Cyrano? rehearsals amid this whirlwind has been exhausting, to be sure. How, Gockley asked Domingo, does he maintain this sort of schedule? To be a singer, a conductor, a general director and a restaurateur, as well: How does he do it? ?You re-charge,? Domingo said, ?by the results of what you are doing ? when you see the public being happy.? And while he was widely quoted a few years ago as saying that he hoped not to be singing at age 70, he said Tuesday that retirement is not quite yet on the horizon: ?I?m not going to retire one day earlier than I can still sing, but I also will not stay there one day more.? You get the idea.
One of the more interesting exchanges between Gockley and Domingo focused on the difficulties of bringing the world?s top singers to the West Coast. Gockley spoke about the ascendence of Spanish opera houses and Eastern European opera houses, about the continued cache of the houses in Paris and Berlin, all of this making it very easy for the best singers to never set foot outside Europe. He lauded Domingo (who said SFO had been ?going down? for a few years before Gockley?s appointment in 2006) for having ?fast-tracked? Los Angeles Opera ?to prominence.? (There was no conversation about the LA company?s serious financial difficulties). And Gockley said that with LA and SFO able to piggyback singers for productions, the challenge of attracting talent is made a bit more manageable: ?If we can get a singer to LA,? Gockley said, ?we can get ?em to San Francisco.?
Finally, back to ?Cyrano,? which premiered in Rome in 1936, and to its composer, Alfano. He was prominent in his time. But he is most often, and sometimes only, now remembered as the man who completed Puccini?s unfinished ?Turandot.? That turned Alfano into a historical footnote, Domingo said. It blotted out his other achievements, like ?Cyrano,? which has always charmed Domingo: ?I was absolutely crazy for it,? he said, from the first time he heard it. It has ?some of the most interesting and tough harmonies,? he said, pointing out that Alfano was in some ways a part of the same milieu that created Berg?s ?Wozzeck? and ?Lulu.? ?And then he comes out with some of the most UNBELIEVABLE melodic lines,? Domingo said of Alfano, obviously excited by the mere thought of them.
Can?t wait for Sunday.

Paris Hilton countersues hair extension company

Posted on 25th November 2010 12:00PMParis Hilton is countersuing the hair extension company which filed a lawsuit against her in August.
The hotel heiress was reportedly paid $3.5 million by Hairtech International in 2007 to be the face of their Dream Catchers range of clip-in locks but is being sued for $35 million after allegedly failing to promote the product and wearing extensions made by a competitor.
Now Paris has filed her own suit and is asking for is asking for $2.1 million in damages, at least $400,000 in punitive damages and attorney fees, and $500,000 in declaratory relief.
In documents filed at Los Angeles Superior Court the socialite's lawyer alleges Hairtech International "sought to capitalise on Ms. Hilton's brand and fame by offering to pay substantial 'guaranteed' royalties in exchange for the right to associate Ms. Hilton's brand with their line of hair products".
Paris is also accusing the company of fraud claiming they failed to pay her "in excess of $1.7 million," and accusing them of "secretly altering documents presented to Ms. Hilton's company for signature".
Along with countersuing the hair extension company, Paris denies she was unprofessional and claims the company's CEO Chris Volek wrote her an email praising her performance after she filmed a commercial for the company.
According to gossip website TMZ, the email said "Hey Paris. I know it was a long day, but baby you 'Rocked.' Just from the takes I saw this is going to be one hellava commercial, you were genuinely amazing."

We're told a family employee told the photog to beat it -- and then the scuffle broke out just as Hulk and Jennifer were saying their vows. Classic.Cops were called, but no one was arrested -- since no one wanted to press charges -- and the ceremony continued ...right through Hulk and Jennifer's 'I dos.'Can't wait to see that wedding album.

Mariah Carey?s ?Merry Christmas? special last night: Three highlights worth watching

Image Credit: Danny Feld/ABCYou know who?s super-fun around Christmastime? The grand dame of ?All I Want for Christmas is You,? Mariah Carey, duh! Last night, the very pregnant pop diva premiered her ABC holiday special, Mariah Carey: Merry Christmas To You, and it did not disappoint in the anti-Scrooge category. It very successfully put me in the holiday spirit! The highlights were many?you can watch the full 45-minute special after the jump?but here?s a guide to the three most important moments from the Carey Christmasfest, including corresponding time codes:
00:00: The diva?s special-opening rendition of sleigh-bell and school yard-chant happy new single ?Oh, Santa!? was the perfect kick-off for the evening. This thumpy, joyful tune proves: Mariah just wants to have fun!
35:00: The launch of Mariah Carey?s duet of ?O Come All Ye Faithful? with her opera-singer mother Patricia Carey. It becomes a diva-off, with both reaching the rafters for the highest note in history. Who wins? You can be the judge of that.
39:45: Mariah closes out the night with her Christmas standard, ?All I Want for Christmas Is You.? If that doesn?t put you in the spirit, then nothing will. There?s simply few things out there that are this joyful.
Now watch the whole special here (or just skip to my suggested highlight portions):

Do you j?adore the about-to-pop Mariah?

Usher brings explosive OMG tour to NYC?s Madison Square Garden

Image Credit: Lyle A. Waisman/Getty ImagesLast night, R&B?s present and future pulled into New York City for the first of two nights at Madison Square Garden for Usher?s OMG tour. Upstart vocalist Miguel, riding high off the success of his ?All I Want is You? single, warmed up the audience. But Trey Songz, with his recent surge of aggressive yet smooth sex-pop hits, made things sizzle.
After breezing through recent jams like ?Say Aah? and even covering Kings of Leon?s ?Use Somebody,? Songz took some time to appreciate the signs out in the audience. ?Can I have your t-shirt, tie, or towel?? one girl?s poster asked. Trey did her one better. He peeled off his sweaty tank top and lowered it into her eager arms. Her night was made. Then it was time for Usher to please everyone else.
While most stared at the stage watching his stick-wielding dancers flash lights, Usher opened the show hovering over the audience before eventually floating down front and center. In a black leather jacket with matching sunglasses and pants, Usher wasted no time getting to his smashes. He has plenty. ?Yeah? was the first he leaped into. His dancing, crisp and precise as usual, mirrored the 2004 video. Next was ?U Remind Me,? which was followed by a brief skit with his four lovely dancers. ?You know I have a past,? he said to his irritated ?girlfriend? as he pointed to three jealous women behind him. ?But you?re my future.? Nice try, but the line didn?t work?his exes strutted off. As did his new girl. ?That?s not how we rehearsed the s? earlier,? he joked. Such was the evening?s loosely tied storyline: a thriving playboy trying to walk the straight and narrow path of monogamy.
Alone again, Usher looked to the crowd to find his next girl to the tune of his steamy, role-reversing ?Trading Places.? He pulled an absolutely giddy woman out of the crowd to join him onstage. Excited but poised, she had no problem grinding against the superstar on a chair in front of the sold out arena. Though as the song wound down she got a little too loose, attempting to swing her leg across Usher?s chest. Whap! Instead, she kicked the side of Usher?s face. Embarrassed and profusely apologetic, she quickly rose to see if her clumsy stunt left a mark on his dimpled cheek. Luckily there wasn?t one, and ever the gentleman, he was all smiles. ?It happens sometimes,? he quipped. ?As men, we play it cool.?
His smooth vocals rang clear all night. Ballads like ?There Goes My Baby? and ?Burn? showcased his silky falsetto. However choosing not to have backup singers on the tour did hurt faster tracks like ?Daddy?s Home? and ?DJ Got Us Fallin? in Love,? where he simply sang to a backing track during choruses instead of adding life to them. Hardly anyone seemed to mind, though. He attempted to say goodbye to the crowd, but after he left the stage, they quickly realized he hadn?t performed a favorite yet. Instantly, they started belting out the European soccer chants featured on his biggest hit of the year, ?OMG.?
He returned, of course, lifting the crowd to their feet. ?Get up,? Usher ordered a man in the front row. ?This is the last song.? Albeit humiliated, he did. Sure, it was a long night. But how one could idly sit with such a dazzling display of James Brown shimmies, numerous explosions, and confetti raining just feet away is baffling. The show demanded respect. And Usher knew it.
Have you been to an Usher concert before? Were you ther last night? Think you want to go now? Let us know in the comments.

Diddy-Dirty Money?s ?Last Train to Paris?: Read EW?s review

Image Credit: Travis ShinnPeople chuckled when Diddy announced that his next project would be a concept album about a tempestuous relationship played out on Europe?s international rail system. They laughed when he declared that his ambitions were so vast, no existing genre could hold him. ?I?m ushering in a new movement called ?train music,?? the hip-hop mogul boasted in one press release. That was in February 2009, and the snickers only got louder each time he subsequently pushed back the disc?s release date. Now Last Train to Paris is finally pulling into the station, and here?s the funniest thing about it: Diddy has followed through on every crazy promise and then some, resulting in his best work in years.
?Train music? turns out to be a highly danceable strain of hip-hop, with at least as much singing as rapping. Diddy isn?t the only one working loosely similar territory these days ? just ask the Black Eyed Peas, Drake, or even Kanye West ? but Last Train?s glittery grooves feel authentically his own. It?s the sound of his 2007 hit ?Last Night,? an electro-laced torch duet with Keyshia Cole, blown out to album length.
Perhaps realizing that he can?t quite pull off this feat all by himself, Diddy gives equal billing to two singers, Kalenna and ex-Danity Kane member Dawn Richard. The female two-thirds of Diddy-Dirty Money flesh out Last Train?s skeletal storyline, playing jealous lovers, disappointed partners, and commanding divas to his conflicted playboy. Assorted suave fellows, including Usher, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, and T.I., help fill out his side of the conversation.
As that partial guest list might suggest, this is a very crowded ride. The sheer number of cameos overwhelms the narrative conceit after a while, around the moment when Justin Timberlake inexplicably starts rapping about X-Men characters (?Shades?). But who really cares? By that time, you just might be enjoying yourself way too much to notice. B+

Oscar Winner's Son Charged With Strangling Girlfiend in New York City Hotel Room

MyFoxNY.com
Dec. 10: New York authorities arrest Nicholas Brooks in the murder of Sylvie Cachay.

NEW YORK -- The son of an Oscar-winning songwriter was arrested Friday on charges of choking his Peruvian-born girlfriend, a fashion designer found dead and half-clothed in a bathtub overflowing with water in a posh hotel, police said.

Nicholas Brooks, 24, was arrested on charges of attempted murder and strangulation in the death of Sylvie Cachay, who was discovered around 3 a.m. Thursday at the Soho House hotel. He has been at a police precinct more than a day and was cooperating with investigators, who obtained a search warrant to take swabs from under his fingernails.

Police said the death was ruled a homicide, but the medical examiner's office has not determined a cause of death pending toxicology test results after an autopsy was inconclusive. The results could take days.

Brooks, the son of "You Light Up My Life" writer Joseph Brooks, has an attorney, but police didn't know the lawyer's name. His father, who is in unrelated legal trouble, has not commented on the case and doesn't know who is representing his son, according to the elder Brooks' attorney.

The 33-year-old Cachay, wearing a black top and underwear, was found submerged in the oval tub, face up, after hotel staff noticed the ceiling below her room was leaking. She had red marks around her neck and a bite mark on her hand, investigators said.

A bottle of prescription pills was found in the room, but no illegal drugs were found.

Before the body was found, Brooks was seen leaving the hotel, then returning and leaving again. According to police, he told investigators he ran into a friend at the lobby, and the two left to get drinks. He returned around 3:30 a.m. to find police in the room.

Cachay lived in an apartment in Manhattan's West Village and had a membership to the Soho House, an exclusive club frequented by celebrities. That meant she had access to the rooftop pool, where "Sex and the City" episodes were filmed, and could rent one of the 24 guest rooms at a discount. The hotel has hosted stars like Nicole Kidman and Naomi Watts.

Earlier in the week, a candle sparked a small bedroom fire at her apartment, and that may have led her to stay at the Soho House, Browne said.

Cachay and Brooks had been dating about six months, and investigators said some of her friends told them he was erratic. The two started dating after Sylvie's poodle was struck by a car and killed, said her mother, Sylvia Cachay of McLean, Virginia, outside Washington.

"He helped her through all this process, and they became boyfriend and girlfriend," she told WTTG-TV, a local Fox affiliate. "Sylvie always had this idea of helping people, and I think this boy needed help in directing his life."

But on a family vacation in Cancun just two weeks ago, Sylvie told her mother the relationship was over.

"She told me, 'Mommy, we are just friends right now. He's trying, but I told him that I don't want to have a serious relationship or consider marriage if he does not change,"' the mother said.

"My heart is just broken," she said.

A phone call to Cachay's family rang unanswered Friday.

Cachay grew up with dual citizenship, splitting her time between Peru and McLean. She graduated from Marymount University with a degree in design. She worked for Victoria's Secret and left in 2006 to start a swimsuit collection, but had been working at fashion houses again after the economy tanked and she lost her backing.

Brooks' Academy Award-winning father is awaiting trial in an unrelated case. The 72-year-old was accused of raping 11 women he lured to his apartment with the promise of a starring role in a movie. He has pleaded not guilty to sexual assault charges and is free on bail.

He won the Oscar for Best Original Song for the 1977 ballad "You Light Up My Life." He also wrote and directed the movie "You Light Up My Life," about a comedian who has a one-night stand with a director.

Jeffrey Hoffman, who represents the elder Brooks, said the father hasn't spoken to his son since Cachay's death.

"I spoke to him within the last few months and I was unaware he had a girlfriend," Hoffman said.

Monterey: Ahmad Jamal

Walking out on stage at 9 p.m., pianist Ahmad Jamal didn?t make any big deal of his Monterey debut. He just started playing, hitting his first chords while standing. It?s half a century since the Pershing. His music, long ago, became heavily percussive, slammingly so. It?s muscular music that he plays ? it sounds like music from a fierce gentleman.
He?s still an overwhelmingly orchestral player, with massive classical chops, so the music winds up sounding like Liszt meeting jazz fusion, kind of hyper-active on all fronts. It?s highly ordered and rococo and the arrangements and punctuations ? i.e. those huge ten-fingered chords ? keep changing. Jamal maintains order with a system of cues that he?s cooked up over the years. His band mates ? all virtuoso players, like their boss ? are drummer Herlin Riley, bassist James Cammack and percussionist Manolo Badrena.
It?s a great band. But even ?Poinciana? sounded turbo-charged and steely-edged. I?m more impressed than moved, so I?m going to try and catch some of Roy Haynes? set in Dizzy?s Den.

"The Hasselhoffs" featured the actor and his two daughters, who are aspiring to get into show biz. The Nielsen Co. says the first episode was seen by 718,000 viewers, and the audience sank to 505,000 the second week.

That means more than half the people who watched the show preceding "The Hasselhoffs" on A&E's Sunday schedule, "Gene Simmons' Family Jewels," turned the TV off or changed channels when Hasselhoff appeared.

The Kiss musician's show had an audience of 1.4 million.

 Auralex goes green with Sustain

Dec 10, 2010 4:17 PM,
By Jack Kontney

When packed with absorptive material, the Auralex Peak Pyramid can act as both a diffusor and a bass trap.

Indianapolis-based Auralex Acoustics introduced its new Sustain line of diffuser products at the recent AES Convention in San Francisco. The Sustain product line includes several form factors, including the Peak Pyramid Diffusor, Wave Prism, Wave Lens, QuadraTec and KeyPac. All are designed to improve a rooms sound quality by helping scatter sound more evenly throughout the acoustical space, which is especially critical in recording studios. What makes them unique is the material used: bamboo.

In an interview on the show floor, Jeff Lantz, general manager, explained the use of bamboo as part of the companys commitment to environmentally responsible products and operation. Auralex has a long history of using ecologically friendly product, like the soy content in our Studiofoam and our EcoTech line, which uses recycled cotton fiber, he said. Using bamboo for our wood products is a natural extension of that approach.

Because bamboo is a fast-growing grass, its sustainability is much easier to maintain. Bamboo can grow up to a foot a day and grows on its own, unlike trees, which take years to replenish, Lantz said. Its acoustic properties are equivalent to our previous wood products, with absolutely no sacrifice in performance. Its beautiful, its sustainable and it works great acoustically. Thats why we developed the Sustain line of diffusors.

The Sustain series includes three new products. The QuadraTec is a lightweight panel, roughly 2sq ft, which works on the quadratic residue theory; they are sold in pairs. The Peak Pyramids, sold in four-packs, is a diffusion panel light enough to be dropped into a suspended ceiling grid. Its can also double as a bass trap function by filling the inside of the pyramid with absorptive material. The KeyPac diffusors, available in three patterns, are perforated covers designed to tune the response of absorptive materials to balance to resulting frequency response.

Auralex has also converted two of its existing wood diffusor products, the Wave Lens and Wave Prism, to be produced exclusively in bamboo. All the wood is sourced in China from a variety of bamboo that is not, Lantz stresses, the type eaten by pandas. To assist customers, Auralex has five applications specialists on staff to make product selection and deployment recommendations.

Auralex has a long history of innovation in the acoustical design space, so this is a natural extension of our approach. The Sustain line is a great example of form meeting function in a responsible way, Lantz said. It looks beautiful, it sounds great and its at a very accessible price point. Weve had incredibly enthusiastic response here at AES. The Auralex Sustain line of diffusors is now shipping.

Soundcraft extends digital line with Si Compact series

Dec 10, 2010 4:20 PM

The 24-fader model in Soundcrafts Si Compact Series of digital mixers.

Positioned as the digital mixing solution for all sizes of sound company or user, the new Soundcraft Si Compact Series is a power-packed range of digital consoles that brings the Soundcraft digital mixing platforms to an affordable price level. Drawing on the full-sized Si series platform, the new Si Compact packs powerful digital mixing facilities along with stunning Lexicon effects into a trio of small-footprint consoles available in 16, 24 or 32 mic/line-input formats, with four stereo returns.

With full DSP functionality built-in, the Si Compact provides up to 40 inputs to mix in three frame sizes, the smallest of which is also rack-mountable. Motorized faders with Soundcraft FaderGlow operate on two layers, and it includes a full encoder set for all the functions on a channel, from input gain through EQ and dynamics to bus controls.

Because there is no layering of the audio controls, operation is fast and simple. With four separate Lexicon FX processors on dedicated FX busses in addition to the main mixes, plus BSS graphic EQ for every bus, the consoles have more than enough processing power.Andy Trott, Harmans vice president and general manager for mixing, microphones and headphones, said, Weve been determined to drive our product portfolio down into the sub-$10,000 price points. Our strategy has always been to integrate no-compromise audio quality together with innovative, feature-rich specifications and an easy-to-use-and-learn, highly intuitive user interface. Si Compact is the result of 18 months extremely focused on creative development and is particularly exciting as its so unique; it brings together so many professional features and technologies from across Harman Professional brands.

Soundcraft audio quality comes courtesy of EMMA Lite, the same DSP platform that has helped propel the larger Si series. Features like dedicated FX busses, 16 line outputs plus AES, an option card slot for MADI or other connectivity, a global mode for instant access to pan, gain and filters, a color, touch-screen interface and FaderGlow allow Si Compact to handle a variety of live sound mixing applications.

Matrox updates dual- and triple-head video breakout boxes

Matrox's existing DualHead2Go and TripleHead2Go DP Edition graphics expansion modules (GXMs) now include a Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable, making it easier for Mac users of Apple's latest notebooks and desktops and other computer owners with DisplayPort technology to hook up to three additional monitors or projectors to their machines. The DVI version of the boxes will also get a boost in an upcoming firmware upgrade, allowing dual 1600x900 resolution. The GXMs are part of a larger lineup of breakout boxes that allow machines with only one video output to instead use multiple monitors in mirrored or the more popular "spanning" modes, symmetrically supporting up to dual 1920x1200 (DualHead) or triple 1360x768 (TripleHead) configurations. Both models are available in VGA and DVI configurations as well, but Apple's Mini DisplayPort connectors have begun to gain traction not only with Apple products, but on recent notebook releases from Toshiba, HP and Dell. Mini DisplayPort supports resolutions up to 2560x1600, meaning it can support output to all models of HDTV and up to 30" Cinema Display or other brand monitors.
The DualHead2Go DisplayPort (DP) Edition costs $239. The TripleHead2Go DP Edition costs $329 and can be bought directly from Matrox or through video accessory resellers worldwide. Monitors must be purchased separately.

UTV accelerates tapeless transition with intelligent archive

Dec 8, 2010 3:07 PM,
By David Austerberry

Irelands UTV has installed a 33TB MatrixStore nearline archive.

Tyrell CCT has provided Irish broadcaster UTV with an intelligent archiving solution consisting of Marquis Broadcasts Parking archive and retrieval software and a three-node MatrixStore cluster from Object Matrix.

UTV staff needed fast, unhindered access to their digital news packages while also requiring a large volume of archive material to be available at their fingertips. They wanted to avoid adding more capacity to their production storage network and consulted with Tyrell CCT to identify an archive solution that required minimal management, could scale quickly and be available across their entire Avid news production systems.

The node-based clustered storage array will initially give UTV 33TB of nearline storage and, combined with the object-based architecture of MatrixStore, provides a secure environment to build UTVs digital archive.

Prince William and Kate Middleton to invite public to wedding

Posted on 24th November 2010 12:00PMPrince William and Kate Middleton will invite 100 members of the public to their wedding via a random draw.
The couple - who will tie the knot in a lavish ceremony at London's Westminster Abbey on April 29 next year - want the British people to be deeply involved in the celebrations and are delighted their plan of inviting a selection of ordinary citizens has been approved.
A source involved with the St James's Palace planning committee revealed: "William and Kate wanted the British people involved at a deeper level than simply holding street parties.
"They were crystal clear on this from the outset and were delighted when the idea of a random selection was mooted.
"Those lucky enough to land an invitation will only find out when it drops on their door mat. Can you imagine? It's like winning a Willy Wonka Golden Ticket for your front-row seat in history."
Along with receiving an invitation to the royal ceremony, the lucky 100 guests - who will mix with a host of international royals and heads of state expected to include US President Barack Obama - will also attend the reception which will reportedly be held at Buckingham Palace.
The source added to The Sun newspaper: "The fortunate few will become the envy of their neighbourhood.
"They will rub shoulders with royalty and world leaders - what a thing to tell your grandchildren."
It has not yet been decided how the invited members of the public will be chosen.
Meanwhile William's younger brother, Prince Harry will take on the role of Supporter for his brother.
A royal source said: "It will be an incredibly emotional day for Harry as well as William.
"They will both be thinking about how proud their mother Princess Diana would be if she had lived to see this wedding. People sometimes forget what those boys have been through. William couldn't have chosen anyone else."
Royals usually choose two Supporters or Best Men but it is unclear if William will follow this tradition.
The source explained: "William is very much his own man. He is undecided if he will go for another Supporter or who that will be."
If William does choose it is likely his best friend Thomas van Straubenzee will share the duties with Harry, 26.

Taylor Swift talks to herself

Posted on 25th November 2010 12:00PMTaylor Swift likes to have conversations with herself.
The 20-year-old singer is enjoying living alone for the first time in her life because she can chat to herself whenever she likes.
The musician - who is rumoured to be dating actor Jake Gyllenhaal - confessed: "Living alone you can do so many fantastic things.
"You can walk around and have conversations with yourself and, like, sing your thoughts . I think I'm the only one who does that."
But the country star, who has a fish pond in her sitting room and a conservatory in the shape of a birdcage at her apartment in Nashville, Tennessee, claims she doesn't expect to have any wild parties at her swanky pad.

They say marijuana affects your memory -- but Willie Nelson seems to remember the lawyer who got him off a weed charge 16 years ago ... because the singer just hired him for his new pot predicament.TMZ spoke with Nelson's attorney, Joe Turner, who tells us he got Willie off the hook for marijuana possession back in 1994 ... after arguing that officials performed an illegal search of the singer's vehicle. Now, Turner wants Willie's fans to know the singer is in "good hands" -- and they plan to fight the new misdemeanor pot possession charge Nelson was slapped with in Texas. RIM sees PlayBook OS as 10-year future for smartphones, tablets

By Josh Ong
Published: 12:00 AM EST

Research in Motion co-CEO Mike Lazaridis revealed Tuesday that the QNX-based BlackBerry Tablet OS in the upcoming PlayBook tablet will eventually make its way onto multi-core BlackBerry smartphones and different-sized tablets over the next ten years.
Lazaridis discussed the BlackBerry maker's plans Tuesday with Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher at the D: Dive Into Mobile conference in San Francisco, Calif., All Things Digital reports.
To kick off the onstage interview, Lazaridis showed off the upcoming PlayBook tablet, which he called "the perfect size." When questioned by Mossberg whether RIM is working on any other sizes, Lazaridis acknowledged the company's plans for different sizes.
Lazaridis emphasized that RIM is betting heavily on the PlayBook and its BlackBerry Tablet OS. "This is a complete mobile computing platform," said Lazaridis. "All of this is coming together to set up BlackBerry for the next decade."
According to Lazaridis, the 7-inch PlayBook, which RIM unveiled in September, is still "tracking" for a first quarter launch.
As RIM's smartphones begin to include multi-core processors, "they'll all be running the Playbook platform," said Lazaridis, who believes the PlayBook OS will help RIM "jump into the next decade of mobile computing."
When questioned whether RIM was leaving behind BlackBerry phones by moving ahead with next generation technology in tablets, Lazaridis emphasized RIM's global strategy. RIM won't abandon developing markets that have yet to reach 3G or 4G and can't afford high-end stuff, he explained.
Lazaridis also claimed during the interview that the BlackBerry began appealing to consumers by itself. "We didn't go out and try to make BlackBerry a consumer device. It crossed over on its own," he said.
RIM and Apple's strategies differ, according to Lazaridis. Apple is trying to upgrade a mobile phone OS for tablets, while RIM is starting with a "bona-fide mobile computing platform" for tablets, he asserted.
Referencing the iPad's lack of Adobe Flash compatibility, Lazaridis asked, "Why would you limit yourself?" In November, RIM posted a comparison video between the iPad and the PlayBook, touting the PlayBook's ability to run Flash.
The competition between Apple and RIM has increased as RIM prepares to enter the tablet market, in which Apple has taken a substantial early lead.
In October Apple CEO Steve Jobs asserted that many 7-inch tablets would be dead on arrival. RIM co-CEO Jim Balsillie responded, claiming that "many customers are getting tired of being told what to think by Apple."

T.I. releases ?No Mercy?: Can he make his new album a hit from jail?

Image Credit: Arnold Turner/WireImage.comT.I. couldn?t have picked a worse time to be missing in action. The rapper-actor, 30, should be out hawking his long-delayed seventh album, No Mercy, which finally arrived in stores today. Instead he?s sitting in a federal prison cell in Arkansas, where he began an 11-month sentence on Nov. 1 after violating probation. ?We were gearing up to put an album out,? sighs Michael Kyser, head of urban music at Atlantic Records, T.I.?s label since 2003. ?But we wanted him to help market and promote it. That would have been nice.?
Click through to the jump for more of this magazine preview.
Even before heading back to jail, T.I. was having a tough couple of years. He spent more than half of 2009 behind bars for a 2008 weapons conviction, and none of the four singles he dropped after his release had much impact on the pop charts. But by the end of this summer, his career seemed to be rebounding. His Aug. 27 movie Takers did well, and he was working on a new album, which he had titled King Uncaged. ?I can?t complain, man,? T.I. told EW in August. ?Things are pretty good from where I stand.?
Just two days later, his comeback came crashing down when he and his wife, Tameka ?Tiny? Cottle, were arrested in L.A. for alleged drug possession during a traffic stop. The charges were later dropped, but it was enough to violate his probation from the previous jail term ? and disappoint many fans. ?Some people were already pissed that he was in jail the first time,? says Vernon Kelson, music director at Baltimore?s 92Q radio. ?Then for him to go back ? some people have turned their back.? Atlantic also felt blindsided. ?No one saw this coming,? says Kyser. ?He stumbled, and we had to adjust.??
